Sir Garnet Wolseley, was sent by the British government to supersede Chelmsford. Although he made desperate efforts to reach him before the expected battle, Wolseley was unsuccessful in an attempted landing through the surf at Port Durnford on the 25th of July, two days before Ulundi. |
