IN the year 1941, a few_people, namely, the late Mr. H. N. MaharaJ, the late Mr. B. R. Singh, the late Mr. M. K. Singh and Pandit Ramavatar Shukla, felt strongly that a Sanathan Dharma Sabha should be established for the purpose of preserving in this country the ancient teachings of the Vedas, Puranas, and the Shastras. With this in mind they visited the various parts of Natal and persuaded 105 people to convene a mass meeting of Sanathanists. At this historic meeting, which was held at the Durban Hindu Temple on the 7th September, 1941, a unanimous decision was taken to form the Shree Sanathan Dharma Sabha (Natal).
