The Hindu heritage in South Africa
The end of the first hundred years of !he history of the Hindus in South Africa marks the beginnings of a greater awareness among them of the glorious cultural and religious heritage which belongs to them. This awareness has manifested itself with a tremendous impact during the last decade and is, no doubt, the result of many factors, not the least of which is the realization of independence by India, its establishment as a republic and its challenging status in the community of nations today, offering the material and the technological soul of the West, the spiritual and intellectual strength of the East. Among other factors which have caused the Hindus in South Africa to take note of their proud heritage has been the greatest contact that is now possible with the native land because of travel, literature and the radio.
