An 1875 photograph of West Street looking west from Field Street. Spans of oxen on their way to the harbour pull wool wagons through the water-logged sand. On the corner is a general dealer's shop selling Kaffir pots, metal canisters, and vegetables.

The famous etching of the first sale of Natal sugar. It appeared in the Iluustrated London News on 2nd February 1856. The wagon contains bags of sugar. Acutt the auctioneer stands on the wagon ringing a handbell. Hugh Miller, the sugar planter, stands beside him.

Beardwork Strip

Multicolored bearded strip with is part of a pregnancy apron. it is known as ' Incwayo' in IsiZulu. A zig-zag pattern can be seen and the strip came from Umbumbulu area in KwaZulu- Natal and it belonged to the Makhanya clan.

"Ungajahi"

Bearded necklace in green and white, with words ' Ungajahi'. It came from Emachunwinini/ Msinga area in KwaZulu- Natal.

" Ngezangazi"

Beaded necklace with words 'Ngezangazi" beaded in black and white.It came from Entanyama area in KwaZulu- Natal.

" Ugqoko"

Wooden carved meat dish in a small round size. It has a glossy finish and a two toned color with one handle and four short legs. It was made as a school project in KwaZulu- Natal.

50 years of bliss for Joan and Cecil. ST. Peter's Anglican Church was the setting for the marriage of Joan and Cecil Newton-Parry on December 15, 1934. Joan and Cecil met when they were both science teachers at Newscastle High School.
