So much overseas interest was taken in the Bambata rebellion that a London weekly newspaper employed its artist to illustrate the Mpanza affair.

Marshall's Hotel, now a dwelling house, is situated in the Mpaza Valley between Greytown and Keate's Drift on the Mooi River. At this time it was occupied by Mrs. Marshall, wife of the proprietor, her companion, Mrs. Borham, and the latter's 13-year-old son Kenneth.
