The bar conquered at last-picture shows the R.M.S Armadale Castle of 12 972 tons, Captain Robinson, at the quayside, 26th June 1904. She was the first large steamship to cross the bar into the harbour. |

Rev. William Nisbett (1799-1885) First Government teacher in Durban in 1850 and was notorious as a flogging master. He had no love for teaching - it merely helped to eke out his income as a military chaplain. |

George Pomeroy Colley (Dublin, 1.11.1835) - Majuba, 27.2.1881). Previously to coming to Natal with Sir Garnet Wolseley as colonial treasurer in 1875, he served on the eastern frontier of the Cape Colony and was a magistrate there. |
