Friends of Laduma Madela on Ceza Mountain, Mxoveni Khumalo
We are leaving Mxoveni's wedding in time before rain started. To the left Laduma' favourite wife Ziphelaphi Mhlongo. On her white woolen cap a feather from a guinea fowl demonstrating her being a medicine woman. This feather brings good luck. Her necklaces are partly from glass beads, partly from job's tears which she herself had made to chains. She wears armlets from skin. Laduma Madela had made her handbag from genet skin. She carries an umbrella. In the centre Isaak Khwela as interpreter.(son of the Lutheran Reverend Khwela at Ceza). To the right Laduma Madela. He has covered his head with a formely white cotton cloth. He has embellished his hat with different skins, amongst them the tail of a genet. Round his neck: a band from skin. Necklets: 1.Pearls from leg bones of a duiker with a duiker hoof as pendant. 2. Job's tears with a plastic frog as pendant. 3. Black seeds of the Wild Chestnut tree, Calodendrum capense. Round shoulders and back partly charred pointed wooden sticks corresponding to former heros' decorations. Two armlets from skin and feathers. In his right hand a ceremonial knobstaff, in his left hand umbrella and horn. Photo taken in the kraal of Mxoveni's brother Mkhafuleni Khumalo; Mxoveni's young wife in traditional dress, with a wig in the shape of a topknot.
