On 8th October 1979 Mbhekeni is kneeling behind Laduma's large dance shield which has a size of a large war shield of the type inkumba. He carries Laduma's battle axe. The ceremonial cloak is Madela's. It is corresponds to the cloak of a traditional war doctor. It is of the type inxaba and is made by Laduma from the skins of a black-backed jackal as well as with the heads of an otter and of two white-tailed Mangooses (cf. medizines, plate 49). Mbhekeni wears on his head ukushokobezi, i.e. the teased tuft at the end of the oxtail.
