The mother of Mxoveni, Velabengasho and Mkhafuleni Khumalo. Her name was Qhamkile ka Makhoba Khumalo. She was an isamgoma, a diviner. Her top knot is a wig. Her bandolier of respect, isikhafulo, is worked in crochet. Her skirt is from blackened neat's leather.

Mkhafuleni Khumalo in front of his cattle pen. Two horns of cattle have been put on the poles in order to show to the ancestors that the cattle have been slaughtered in their honour.

Mkhafuleni demonstrate the way he fights the lightning: He stands near one of his anti-lightning posts=decayed trees which have crosses (not visible) made with red anti-lightning medicine.

Mkhafuleni demonstrates his anti-lightning spear which had been forged by Laduma Madela. Later on Laduma told the author that Mkhafuleni was about to be initiated as a lightning doctor.

Laduma Madela accompanied the bride's party and blew his horn in order to ask permission for the bride's party to enter the bridegroom's kraal for the wedding.

After the religious ceremony the bridegroom changed into traditional skin dress, partly, however supplied by perlon plush and plastic (bandoliers and head dress). In his head ornament a coloured crane feather.

Thembani whole figure. On top of her matrimonial skirt, isidwaba, from leather she wears a black cotton apron with glass bead ornaments. On the back and over the shoulders she has a transparent black shawl. Her bag is decorated with much beadwork.

Girls use to collect firewood in groups. They fix the large bundles of wood with grass ropes.

The start of the wicker work construction of a round hut. The door opening which is not seen, is to the utmost right. The flag on the high pole shows that a young man from the kraal succeeded in winning the love of a girl. In the background some maize fields.
