Mom sent me the articles about your recent award and your column about Thursday lunches. Congratulations! I am quite moved by your stories of experiences that impacted your youth and your days at Davidson and by your work with Daris Eliot and your work at NationsBank. It may surprise you that I found myself pleasantly surprised by your concern with race and equality. I think that my surprise arose out of assumptions I made about you in the 1980s during the debate over South Africa sanctions. I remember one time your looking at me with what felt - like disdain when I spoke up at the stockholders meeting.
