This report describes an investigation into the correlates, especially psychological correlates, of musical aptitude among Indian children. The sample consisted of 200 standard five Hindu pupils balanced for sex and socio-economic status so that there were two groups of high-status boys and girls and two of low-status, 50 in each group. Status was determined by father's occupation. The subjects belonged to four suburban schools near Durban and were of normal age for their grade.
