The mother of Mxoveni, Velabengasho and Mkhafuleni Khumalo. Her name was Qhamkile ka Makhoba Khumalo. She was an isamgoma, a diviner. Her top knot is a wig. Her bandolier of respect, isikhafulo, is worked in crochet. Her skirt is from blackened neat's leather.

Hanging down from the roof upon the wall; a twirling-stick for beer, utshwala. ; a necklace from small wooden sticks, iminyezane. On top of the picture of a python's skin. In the centre; a forked piece of wood for churning medicine; a knife, etc.

On the wall: a black sheep ram's skin with which Mkhafuleni covers his back when he fights the lightning. On top: a piece of coral and the cuttlebones= "excrements of the moon", for the treatment of eye sicknesses.

Mkhafuleni demonstrates his anti-lightning spear which had been forged by Laduma Madela. Later on Laduma told the author that Mkhafuleni was about to be initiated as a lightning doctor.

The very little ox defeinitivey spread by Mkhafuleni himself  after much spearing without killing. The meat of the ox belongs to the girls of the bride's party who stand around the ox.
