Sir R. Buller 'The Saviour of Natal'

His rescue of soldiers at Inhlobane during the Zulu War won him the Victoria Cross. He was Commander in Chief in the Second Boer War and raised the Siege of Ladysmith in 1900.

E.A.R Innes (1852-87) A protege of Harry Escombe, this young man spent the last six years of his life as a harbour engineer of Durban. He died from an infection contracted from the mangrove swamps in the bay.

The late Sir Michael H. Gallwey, K.C.M.G.

Born at the Cork in 1826 and died at Maritzburg last week. He came to Natal in 1857 as Attorney-General, having been appointed to that post by the Home Government. He was Chief-Jutice in 1890-91.
