Letter from Dave to Phyllis Naidoo

Its Tuesday, im two days late in my weekly mail. For Latinos, Tuesday the 13th is what Friday 13th is for Anglos. But im not particularly superstitious. At least not today. But let me tell how my week was.

I finally remembered that black ink is kinder for your eyes, its 5:45 pm of mothers day, a big thing here in Cuba, more than workers day, and mom lies on the couch under the mango's tree, asleep after a hectic day of kissing and visits of grandsons and phone calls.
 

It seems like all my letters begin like…”It’s been a helluva week.” Well, its true. Im exhausted, dead tired. And I can’t wait for Monday to write to you, because Monday will even be worse.

Its odd writing a date with three straight nines. Its like your car is getting to the end of its mileage, or like it’s a discount year, “on sale.” Anyway, I guess this is going to be a long long letter I’ve been meaning to write to you ever since you left.

Another week, so its time for another letter.

So much to talk about. I just finished drafting my 3rd post hospital long email to you, but decided to write letter, mom will certify and post tomorrow. I still ignore if you got the long letter I sent with Clara. I have received nothing new from you after I left the hospital.

Third Monday, third letter to you, fourth if we count Clara's, in a row. I also have an email for you, but we have to wait to go to work to pass it, and will probably not be before Friday 11.
