Susa Madela dressed up as the priest of the Madela family whose duty it is to praise the ancestors. He wears a red Lourie feather and in his pierced earlobe a horn smeared inside with anti-lighting medicine. He stands in front of Bafungile's house. (Cf. "Susa", plate 25 and p.53)

In Bafungile's house. Susa looks at his portrait which the author had taken on 31st  March 1979. He played to be schpcked by "this fearful man". ("Der einbeinige Gott", colour plate XXI)

Laduma's daughter Alexina, married Dlakude, starts to cover a wrangler waistcoat with glass bead ornaments. The author had bought both waistcoat and beads. She never got the waistcoat. In 1985/86 Alexina pretended it to have been stolen.(Cf. "Handwerke", plate 106 top and pp.106, 107)

Visit to Father Elmar Kimmel, O.S.B. on Nandi Mission from the Benedictine Diocese of Eshowe. Velabengasho and Mbhekeni had announced our arrival at Nandi Mission by blowing the ox horn trumpet made by Laduma (cf. Susa, page 32).

The authors' farewell visit  to Laduma Madela. Laduma hands over to Eric Khwela as his intermediary the gifts for the author: a battle axe he made for her and the now finished inhlendla from F.1979/II, F.12/1a. To the right waves Mbhekeni Mhlongo a whisk. With green headcloth his mother.

Madela puts spear into the hearth from twigs. He will blow the fire up with his mouth. He has no bellow.(Cf."Handwerke", plate 1 top, and p. 94.)

Madela starts to forge a spear for the ceremonial killing of goats from rod iron (reinforcing steel). He works on an iron anvil (part of a rail from the railways). (Cf. "Handwerke", plate 1 bottom, and pp.94,95.)

In Bafungile' house. Laduma is resting on her bed. Ziphelaphi and Bafungile (only her yellow head cloth is visible) sit politely on mats on the floor. To the left are partly visible: the shafts of a battle axe and an inhlendla (cf. to follow: F22/28).
