The late Sir Michael H. Gallwey, K.C.M.G.

Born at the Cork in 1826 and died at Maritzburg last week. He came to Natal in 1857 as Attorney-General, having been appointed to that post by the Home Government. He was Chief-Jutice in 1890-91.

Hendrik Cloete (1792-1870) was descended from the fifth generation of Jacob Cloete who came to the Cape with Jan van Riebeeck. By profession, he was an attorney but he carried out important political tasks for the British government.
