This photograph, published in the Natal Mercury Pictorial on August 5, 1909 showshow newspaper delivery was done between Durban and Pietermaritzburg. The caption says: " As there is no train to Pietermaritzburg from 6 p.m. on Saturday until 5.50 p.m. on Sunday, the proprietor of The Latest, in order to meet the demands in the City for this popular weekly, purchased this motor cycle, which conveys a special stock to Maritzburg every week. Mt Harold Singer who regularly undertakes this journey holds the road record by motor cyle to Pietermaritzburg. Invariably he reaches the City in fully an hour less time than the corridor express of the Natal Government Railways ordinarily takes for the distance.
