Fort Pearson, a famous strongpoint on a bluff overlooking the river Tugela. The young visitor gazes from the fort across to Zululand and the farm Tenedos where another smaller fort was set up. At this time of the year (winter), the river is shallow and the sandbanks exposed, but in the rainy season, it can be impassable. Its name Tugela means 'the startling one'
