South African Indian politics and labour 1920-1933
The major focus of this essay will be limited to the period between 1925 and the early 1930's. This period is chosen for a number of reasons:
a) It was during the 1920 1s that South African Indians began to emerge as a significant section of the growing industrial working-class in South Africa.
b) In the 1920 1s, for the first time, an organisation to represent South African Indians nationally emerged i.e The South African Indian Congress (SAIC) formed in 1923. / ..... . contd, 5/ ••••••
